The first section is used when you are going to only have one partition or a C: drive. The second section is used when you are going to have two partitions or a C: and a D: drive. If you can, print this out as a reference for your installation. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION 1 One partition or a C: drive only: Insert into your laptop the floppy drive and boot to this floppy. NOTE THAT REFORMATTING, FORMATTING OR FDISKING YOUR HARD DRIVE WILL PERMANENTLY ERASE/DELETE ALL PROGRAMS AND DATA FROM THE DRIVE. Use Fdisk.exe to partition the drive (if needed) and then use Format.com to format the drive. Fdisk instructions can be found at: http://www.compu-docs.com/Fdisk.htm To format the drive, at the A:\> prompt type "FORMAT C:" without the quotes like this: (do not retype the A:\>) A:\>FORMAT C: After you format the drive and you have rebooted to the floppy, at the A:\> prompt type "transfer" without the quotes like this (do not retype the A:\>): A:\>transfer and press Enter on your keyboard. It will copy the system files to your C:\ drive and you will be back to the A:\> prompt, at which time you must shut the computer down and put in your CD-Rom drive. Make sure your Windows CD is in the CD-Rom drive. Next, boot up your computer. It will boot up to the C: drive. (Note: your CD-Rom drive letter will temporarily be X) At the C:\> prompt type in the following based on your operating system you are installing (do not retype the C:\>): For 95: C:\>95CCabs For 98: C:\>98CCabs For NT: C:\>NTCCabs For ME: C:\>MECCabs For 2K: C:\>2KCCabs For XP: C:\>XPCCabs Your files will be copied from the CD. When they are finished being copied, you MUST shut down the computer and reinsert the floppy drive with the bootup floppy in the drive. Boot to the floppy again. At the A:\> prompt type in the following based on your operating system you are installing (do not retype the A:\>): For 95: A:\>95CSetup For 98: A:\>98CSetup For NT: A:\>NTCSetup For ME: A:\>MECSetup For 2K: A:\>2KCSetup For XP: A:\>XPCSetup and press Enter on your keyboard. Your installation should start. You can leave the cab (cabinet) files on the computer when you are finished installing the operating system. The cab files will be at the Root of C:\ in a folder named WinXXcab where XX is your type of operating system. Exception: Windows XP's cab files will be in the C:\I386 folder. Anytime your system needs additional files from the installation CD, it will look in this directory first, so you won't need to find the CD. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION 2 Two partitions or a C: and a D: drive: Insert into your laptop the floppy drive and boot to this floppy.
