The first section is used when you are going to only have one partition or a C: drive. The second section is used when you are going to have two partitions or a C: and a D: drive. If you can, print this out as a reference for your installation. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION 1 One partition or a C: drive only: Insert your boot disk into the floppy drive and boot to the floppy. NOTE THAT REFORMATTING, FORMATTING OR FDISKING YOUR HARD DRIVE WILL PERMANENTLY ERASE/DELETE ALL PROGRAMS AND DATA FROM THE DRIVE. (Note: your CD-Rom drive letter will temporarily be X) Use Fdisk.exe to partition the drive (if needed) and then use Format.com to format the drive. Fdisk instructions can be found at: http://www.compu-docs.com/Fdisk.htm To format the drive, at the A:\> prompt type "FORMAT C:" without the quotes like this: (do not retype the A:\>) A:\>FORMAT C: After you format the drive, put your Windows CD into the CD-Rom drive. At the A:\> prompt type in the following based on your operating system you are installing (do not retype the A:\>): For 95: A:\>95CSetup For 98: A:\>98CSetup For NT: A:\>NTCSetup For ME: A:\>MECSetup For 2K: A:\>2KCSetup For XP: A:\>XPCSetup and press Enter on your keyboard. Your files will be copied from the CD. After the copying is finished, your installation should start. You can leave the cab (cabinet) files on the computer when you are finished installing the operating system. The cab files will be at the Root of C:\ in a folder named WinXXcab where XX is your type of operating system. Exception: Windows XP's cab files will be in the C:\I386 folder. Anytime your system needs additional files from the installation CD, it will look in this directory first, so you won't need to find the CD. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION 2 Two partitions or a C: and a D: drive: Insert your boot disk into the floppy drive and boot to the floppy. NOTE THAT REFORMATTING, FORMATTING OR FDISKING YOUR HARD DRIVE WILL PERMANENTLY ERASE/DELETE ALL PROGRAMS AND DATA FROM THE DRIVE. (Note: your CD-Rom drive letter will temporarily be X) Use Fdisk.exe to partition the drives into 2 partitions (C: & D:) (if needed) and then use Format.com to format the drives.
